The Outer Worlds is a first person action adventure RPG from the creators of Fallout which places your character in dystopian societies purchased by Earth corporations. This game promises to combine the world building of the first two fallout games, with the comedic nature of the Borderlands series. The Outer worlds is a loot and skill point based RPG set in our Universe but an alternative version. Corporations control the universe and humans have expanded to the outer reach of the galaxy. The alternate timeline split during the industrial revolution, when the gap between the richest and poorest was at its very peak. The world is ruled by a team of Corporations known as the board, who purchased the solar system of Halcyon, the environment in which this game takes place. You begin the game as a colonist who was hired to work as a member of the working class, but you were lost in space for years. By the time you make it to Halcyon, the civilization is in full swing, and your plan of a peaceful life is put on the back burner….
Microsoft acquired the originally independent developer in BLANK, and the studio plans to release the game on Microsoft’s new Ultimate Game pass which combines its previous Xbox game plan with Xbox gold, the online subscription plan for $15.99. If you have previously purchased the Ultimate Game Pass, you will receive the game for free upon release. The Outer Worlds is set to release on October 24th on the PC, Playstation and Xbox, and the expectations for the release are extremely positive. Obsidian games have claimed that they do not intend to have any micro transactions within the game, a promise that most fans, myself included, are delighted to hear. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THERE ARE NO PREORDER INCENTIVES. Gamers have grown increasingly frustrated with developers making incomplete games with the completed version hidden behind pay walls, so it is nice to see a company make an effort to state that they are different, that they believe we deserve a completed game for $60. I believe that we as gamers should reward studios for their efforts in avoiding controversial micro transactions and releasing incomplete versions of their games with our hard earned money. It would have been hypocritical of Obsidian to release a game that displays dark satirical capitalism to include micro transactions.
You should get this game if…
1. You enjoy first person shooters
2. You have ever played fall out
3. You think companies should be rewarded for doing the right thing
4. You like BIG worlds
5. You want your decisions within a game to affect the narrative
We will be following the outer worlds as the release day gets closer and will potentially be releasing an in-depth post release review with our updated recommendation.
